WhatsApp Business
The channel a great deal of Algerian commerce actually runs through — and the one almost nobody organises.
In Algeria, WhatsApp is not a secondary channel: it is frequently where the sale closes. A customer sees a post, writes on WhatsApp, asks three questions and orders. Everything else in the apparatus — advertising, page, website — often exists to feed that conversation.
It is also the least organised link in the chain. Messages land on somebody’s personal phone, the same questions are answered twenty times a day, orders get lost in the thread, and nobody knows how many enquiries were never answered at all. The channel that sells the most is the one measured least.
The difference between a personal and a business account is real, and it is not a matter of a badge. A business profile carries a catalogue, opening hours, an address, quick replies and an away message. Beyond that, the official platform lets several people answer from one number, which is the threshold at which a team becomes possible.
We organise this channel rather than adding volume to it. In almost every case the gain comes not from receiving more messages but from losing fewer: a response time that is kept, frequent questions handled in advance, and a record of what was promised to whom.
What we usually find
- Your orders arrive on an employee’s personal phone.
- You answer the same question about price twenty times a day.
- Customers write in the evening and nobody replies until the day after next.
- You do not know how many conversations end without a sale.
What changes
A channel that no longer depends on one person
The number belongs to the company, and several people can answer without treading on each other.
Immediate answers to repeated questions
Price, hours, delivery and availability handled in advance, freeing time for the sales that matter.
Enquiries that stop getting lost
Every conversation has a state — waiting, handled, lost — instead of vanishing into the thread.
What you get
A complete business profile
Name, activity, address, hours and link, so a stranger knows who they are writing to before writing.
Product catalogue
References, prices and photos browsable inside the conversation, instead of sending ten images by hand.
Quick replies and away messages
Frequent questions prepared, and an honest answer outside opening hours rather than silence.
Message buttons from advertising
Facebook and Instagram campaigns can open the conversation directly, with no intermediate step.
Several operators on one number
Through the official platform, once volume exceeds what one person can handle alone.
Tracking conversations and sales
How many enquiries, how many replies, how many orders. Without that figure the channel is invisible.
How we work
Get the number off a personal phone
The channel belongs to the business. It is the first decision, and often the hardest.
Collect the real questions
A week of conversations is enough to reveal the eight that recur. They get handled in advance.
Structure the replies
Profile, catalogue, quick replies, away message, and a response-time rule that is actually kept.
Measure and adjust
Enquiries received, average delay, conversations left unanswered. The last figure pays the most.
Is this the right fit for you?
This is for you if
- A substantial share of your sales already runs through WhatsApp conversations.
- You receive more messages than you seriously handle.
- You sell products whose price and availability are asked about before buying.
This is not for you if
- Your sales are self-service and call for no conversation at all.
- You want to automate the reply entirely. Here automation sorts; it does not sell.
- You want to send bulk messages to strangers. This is not that channel, and it is a good way to lose it.
What we commit to
The number stays with the business
The account is created on a number you own, never on a provider’s or an employee’s.
We do not broadcast to strangers
Unsolicited sending gets a number blocked and costs you the channel itself. We refuse that risk.
A response time stated and kept
Better to promise a reply within four hours and keep it than to promise instant and disappoint.
Why this channel weighs so heavily in Algeria
WhatsApp established itself as the country’s default messenger, and commerce followed. Many Algerian businesses — shops, tradespeople, resellers, service providers — conduct their entire customer relationship inside the application, from the first message to confirming delivery.
That creates a dependency worth facing squarely. A blocked number, a lost phone, or an employee who leaves with the account can sever the relationship with hundreds of customers at once. Moving to a business account on a number the company owns is therefore not a convenience: it is what makes the channel survivable.
The commercial consequence is simple and rarely drawn. Since the sale closes here, response time does more for revenue than most advertising optimisation. A business that answers in ten minutes sells to customers a business answering the next day has already lost — at the same acquisition cost.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the Business app and the official platform?
The free app suits one person answering alone: profile, catalogue, quick replies, away message. The official platform lets several people answer from the same number, with a shared history and integration with your tools. The move is justified by volume, not by prestige.
Can we send promotions to our whole list?
Not the way you would send an SMS. Business-initiated messages are governed, require the customer’s prior agreement and use approved formats. A mass send to people who asked for nothing gets the number reported and then blocked, which costs you the entire channel — we do not do it.
Do we need a number separate from the manager’s?
Yes, and it is the recommendation we repeat most. A commercial channel on a personal number disappears the day that person leaves, breaks their phone or goes on holiday. The number must belong to the business, as a landline always did.
Can a bot answer for us?
It can sort, answer closed questions and take the details of a simple order. It does not close a sale that needs negotiating or reassuring. We use it to free human time for the conversations that pay, not to replace the conversation.
Can WhatsApp be connected to our advertising?
Yes — Facebook and Instagram campaigns can open a conversation directly, which removes a step and markedly improves the contact rate. It is often the most profitable arrangement for an Algerian retailer, provided somebody is genuinely there to answer.
How do we know the channel pays?
By counting three things: conversations opened, average time to first reply, and the share of conversations that end without a sale. The third is the most instructive and almost nobody measures it — that is generally where the lost revenue is.
How to start
We look at a week of your real conversations: what gets asked, how quickly you answer, and what goes unanswered.
Most of the time the fastest gain is not attracting more messages but ceasing to lose the ones you have.
