How we see you
Endocrinology is a specialty of the long view. Diabetes or a thyroid condition is followed over years, and what matters shows as much in the trend of your results as in the consultation of the day. So we organise follow-up as a calendar: HbA1c usually every three months, a foot check and an eye examination once a year, and the other tests at the pace your doctor sets.
Blood samples are taken in the ground-floor laboratory, and thyroid ultrasound is next door in imaging. Where possible, tests are booked a few days before the consultation, so the doctor has the results in front of them when they see you rather than asking you to come back. The yearly eye examination is arranged with the clinic’s ophthalmology team.
Some of the work happens between appointments. Your glucose diary, weight readings and questions can be added to your patient space, where you will also find each report and the dates of your next tests. For diabetes in pregnancy, the endocrinologist works alongside the gynaecologist following the pregnancy, on a single shared record.

What we examine and take care of
Every situation is different: the consultation, and only the consultation, decides what comes next.
Living with diabetes
Blood glucose readings, HbA1c, food and physical activity, and what the condition changes in your everyday life.
Watching for complications
Foot checks, eye examinations, kidney function and cholesterol tests, planned at regular intervals.
The thyroid
An abnormal blood test or ultrasound, a nodule found by chance, or the follow-up of a known thyroid condition.
Weight
Weight gained or lost without an obvious reason, looked at through hormones and lifestyle, without judgement.
Other hormone checks
Tiredness that persists, a hormonal problem raised by another doctor, or diabetes that has appeared in pregnancy.
Tests, on site
The tests this specialty asks for most often are done here, without changing address.
A first consultation, step by step
Arrival
After the ground-floor reception you are seen on the first floor, wing A, where your weight, height and blood pressure are taken first.
Your history
The doctor goes through the history of the condition, your past results, your treatments, what you eat and how you live day to day.
Examination
The doctor examines your neck and thyroid and, if you are followed for diabetes, your feet, with shoes and socks off.
Your calendar
You leave with the tests to do, a report in your patient space and a dated follow-up calendar.
What to bring
- Your glucose diary, or your meter so the stored readings can be looked at

By teleconsultation
A diabetes review works well by video, as long as you have your glucose readings and latest results to hand; the same goes for discussing thyroid results. The foot check and the first consultation take place at the clinic.
Common questions
Can I have my blood tests before the consultation?
That is the best way. When you are being followed, the request for your next tests is given to you at the previous consultation, and samples are taken in the ground-floor laboratory a few days beforehand. Some tests are done fasting; the instruction is written on the request and in your patient space.
How often will I need to come back?
It depends on your situation, and your doctor decides. With diabetes, HbA1c is often checked every three months, and a foot check and an eye examination are planned every year. These dates appear in your patient space.
I have diabetes in pregnancy: who looks after me?
The endocrinologist and the gynaecologist following your pregnancy work together, on the same record. Appointments are closer together during this period, and each reads what the other has noted, so you do not have to connect the two consultations yourself.
Which language is the consultation in?
French or Arabic, whichever suits you. Some doctors also speak Kabyle or English; their languages are listed on their profiles further down this page. If a relative comes with you to translate or help, they are welcome in the consultation.
