Before the works

A damp-stained slab, an old membrane torn along the parapets and puddles that no longer dried between one storm and the next. In the bedroom below, the ceiling blistered every winter.

What was done

The old protection was stripped to the deck, the cracks opened and filled, and the falls re-screeded towards the two outlets. Once dry, the deck took a coat of cold-applied primer.

The waterproofing went on as two layers of torch-welded SBS bitumen membrane, seams staggered, then up the parapets in alu-faced felt with an aluminium flashing strip on top. A twenty-four-hour flood test came before the protection.

The protection became a floor: 20 × 20 terracotta tiles in C2TE adhesive, beige joints, with a movement joint every four metres so the slab can breathe in the summer sun.
