Roof terraces and waterproofing

A roof terrace redone in two layers, flood-tested, and turned into a room outdoors if you like.

Roof terrace after: new waterproofing, terracotta tiles, an oak pergola.

Roof waterproofing is not patched: water gets in at an upstand or an outlet and comes out somewhere else. We strip the old protection, re-screed the falls and lay a two-layer bitumen waterproofing, upstands included, before a twenty-four-hour flood test.

The protection can become a floor: terracotta tiles, pedestal slabs, or a reflective resin that lowers the heat under the slab in summer.

What the job covers

  • Stripping the old protection and re-screeding the falls
  • Primer and two-layer bitumen waterproofing
  • Upstands in alu-faced felt with flashing strips
  • A twenty-four-hour flood test
  • Protection: tiles, pedestal slabs or reflective resin

Questions about renovation

When should waterproofing be redone?

Ideally in spring or early autumn, on a dry deck, and before leaks damage the ceiling below.

What warranty on the waterproofing?

Ten years on waterproofing laid by Qarmoud Atelier, provided it is not pierced afterwards.

Can it be insulated at the same time?

Yes: extruded polystyrene boards laid on the waterproofing, under a heavy protection, keep the summer heat out of the slab.
