Before the works

A chipped steel bath, blue faïence coming away in places, pipes run along the wall and an old leak that had stained the ceiling of the flat below. Ventilation was a small window that did not shut properly.

What was done

The strip-out took the walls back to the brick. The plumber re-ran every supply in concealed multilayer pipe and the waste in PVC with the fall a low-profile tray needs; the electrician fitted a circuit protected by a 30 mA RCD.

Before a single tile, under-tile waterproofing went on the floor and the shower walls, corners reinforced with tape, then flood-tested for twenty-four hours. The green zellige was reserved from one lot so the shade matches from floor to ceiling.

Tiling took four days: 30 × 60 faïence above, 10 × 10 zellige in the shower, epoxy grout wherever water runs. The wall-hung toilet frame, the fixed screen and the vanity unit went in last.
