An eleven-square-metre kitchen that finally works

Before the works

Dark units swollen by damp under the sink, cracked faïence behind the cooker, one socket for four appliances and a worktop too low for everyone. The room was the right size; nothing in it was in the right place.

What was done

Asma redrew the layout as an L to clear the way to the courtyard: the sink under the window, the hob on the solid wall, the oven tower at the end of the run. The 3D plan was signed off in one sitting, with the terrazzo and faïence samples on the table.

Works began with the strip-out and the services: a water supply moved, a dedicated circuit for the oven and hob, six sockets above the worktop. The terrazzo went down on a repaired screed, then matt-white faïence the full height of the splashback.

The units went up in two days, the laminate worktop was cut on site for the sink and the hob, and the hood was connected to the existing flue. A primer and two coats of matt paint finished the walls and ceiling.
