Scaling removes the plaque and tartar that brushing no longer shifts. It is done with ultrasound, in a single session of about thirty minutes, without anaesthetic.

Fillings
The decay is cleaned out and filled with a composite matched to the tooth. A simple cavity is done in one session under local anaesthetic, and you can eat two hours later.

When decay reaches the nerve, the nerve is removed, the canals cleaned and then sealed. This takes two sessions a week apart.

A simple extraction is done under local anaesthetic and takes about twenty minutes. An impacted wisdom tooth needs longer and sometimes a panoramic X-ray first.

Crowns
A ceramic crown takes two to three sessions: preparation and impression, then fitting once the piece is back from the laboratory, which takes about two weeks. A temporary crown is fitted in between.

What the practice does not do
There is no out-of-hours cover, and the assistant diagnoses nothing.
Outside opening hours nobody answers at the practice. Pain that keeps you awake, a swollen cheek or a fever needs a hospital emergency department. The assistant gives you times and prices; it does not tell you what you have.
