In the first days the teeth are tender and the brackets rub the inside of the cheeks. That is normal. Orthodontic wax, pressed onto the bracket that rubs, gives relief while the cheek gets used to it.
Brushing takes longer: around each bracket, above and below the wire. Interdental brushes reach where the toothbrush cannot. A hand mirror helps you check.
Avoid what sticks and what cracks: toffee, chewing gum, nuts to crunch, ice you bite. Cut hard fruit into pieces rather than biting into it.
A loose bracket or a wire that cuts should not wait for the next check: tell the practice, or come in the morning, between 08:30 and 10:00, Sunday to Thursday. Checks take place every six to eight weeks.
Four notes from the practice on everyday care. They do not replace a consultation: for your own case, the dentist answers after examining you.
