01 · The brief
At home, not in a hall
The family wanted the engagement at home, as it had been for the elders: sixty guests, the bride in the Tlemcen chedda, and her grandmother in the front row for the rings.

02 · The challenge
A house is not a venue
A salon to empty for one night, a family kitchen that cannot take a brigade, a narrow street to park thirty cars in, and neighbours the family wants to keep as friends.

03 · The design
Garnet velvet and candles
Benches dressed in garnet velvet embroidered with gold, a silver tray with the ring boxes, the henna bowl and the dates, and candlelight the photographer works without flash.

04 · Logistics
One night in storage
The salon furniture goes into storage for a night, the pastries arrive from a Tlemcen workshop at 6 pm, two valets handle the street, and everything is back in place by noon the next day.

05 · On the night
The rings, the henna, the two families’ photograph
The groom’s mother slips on the ring, the grandmother places the henna in the bride-to-be’s palm, the ululations rise, and the two families pose together for the photograph they will frame.
