Antalya and its coast have become an obvious family destination: a warm sea, large hotels designed with children in mind, and relatively short direct flights. For the holiday to be restful for the parents as well, a few choices made before departure count for more than anything else.
The season first. In July and August the midday heat is intense, and children cope with it less well than adults. June and September offer a sea that is already, or still, warm with more bearable temperatures. If your dates are tied to the school holidays, build the day around shade: beach in the morning, a nap, the pool late in the afternoon.
Then the hotel’s location. The coast runs for dozens of kilometres, from Kemer in the west to Side and Alanya in the east, and the transfer from the airport can take anything from half an hour to nearly two hours. With young children, a short transfer after a late flight makes a real difference.
All-inclusive makes family life simpler. Meals and drinks are covered, which spares you the arithmetic at every snack, and most family hotels offer a supervised children’s club by age group, a shallow pool and sometimes water slides. It is worth checking the club’s hours and minimum age, which vary widely from one hotel to the next.
The choice of room deserves attention. A family room with two separate spaces lets parents stay up without switching off every light at eight o’clock. A cot is requested at booking, and a room on the ground floor or near the lifts saves long walks with a pushchair.
A few outings make a pleasant change from hotel life. The old town of Kaleiçi and its harbour, the Düden waterfalls and the region’s ancient sites can each be visited in half a day. They are best planned for early morning, with one day of doing nothing kept free in the middle of the stay.
For entry into Türkiye, the regime for Algerian passports can change, and it applies to children too, who need passports of their own. We tell you the rule in force at the time of booking, to be checked with the consulate or on the official portal. An authorisation may also be required for a minor travelling without both parents, so ask the relevant authorities.
Visa, health and entry rules change without notice: check them with the consulate or the official portal before you travel.
