A wedding guest: dressing well without stealing the night

An Algerian wedding is not one evening: it is a series of them. There is the henna at the bride’s home, the party in the hall, sometimes the bride’s arrival at her husband’s and the lunch the next day. A guest who wants to honour all of it without ruining her summer needs a few pieces that change roles, and one golden rule: the bride changes outfits seven times, and the guest does not compete with her once.

The henna: tradition, worn lightly

The henna is often held at home, among women, sitting on the floor or on cushions. It is the moment to wear heritage without the weight of a full karakou. A straight-cut Kabyle dress with its embroidered braids says you care for tradition and still lets you move: Kabyle dress, straight cut. If you prefer a top, the blouse with its fetla-embroidered collar goes over a plain long skirt: Fetla-collar blouse and Tamentfoust maxi skirt.

The hall: one colour, one line

In the hall the light is strong, the photographs many and the heat real. Avoid white and ivory, which belong to the bride, and head-to-toe black, which disappears in photographs. A clear colour and a simple line are enough. Our bias-cut satin evening dress, one line from neck to ankle, is made for this moment: Phare evening gown.

If you prefer a covered silhouette, the long matt-satin dress with puffed sleeves falls straight, does not cling and goes with a hijab matching the evening’s main colour: Puff-sleeve maxi dress. It stands up for five hours without a crease at the waist.

The next day’s lunch: the dress that comes back

The next day you are tired and want to look lovely all the same. The long fluid crepe dress is ideal here: it has the bearing of a party dress and the comfort of a beach one: Amirauté maxi dress. With flat sandals and a square knotted in your hair, it goes to the beach the day after too: Kabyle-motif square scarf.

The accessories that do the rest

One embroidered clutch is enough to dress every outfit above; choose it richer than the dress, never the other way round: Embroidered velvet clutch. As for shoes, think of the journey home: a wedding hall is often left at two in the morning, down a flight of stairs.

Four weddings, one budget

The hall dress serves twice if you change the accessories and your hair; the Kabyle dress serves every henna of the summer; the crepe dress the lunch and the rest of the holiday. Three well-chosen pieces are worth more than four dresses worn once, and our boutiques adjust lengths free of charge on pieces bought from us.
