The outing, step by step
08:3030 min
The citadel
We start at the top, near the old citadel, where the white city tumbles towards the port.
09:0075 min
The lanes and the doors
Sloping lanes, wooden overhangs, studded doors and fountains: the guide tells of the houses and the trades that lived in them.
10:1545 min
An Ottoman house
A visit to a restored palace: the columned patio, the galleries, the tiles and the roof terrace people climbed to for the evening breeze.
11:0030 min
Ketchaoua Mosque and the square
At the foot of the Casbah, Ketchaoua Mosque and its two towers, then the square that opens onto the sea.
11:3030 min
A tea, then back
A mint tea in the shade before the car brings you back to the house for lunch on the patio.
The concierge’s advice
- Flat shoes: the stairs are steep and the paving slips.
- Clothing that covers the shoulders to enter the mosque.
- The house guide knows which houses are open that day; site hours change, and the concierge checks them the day before.
