Science fair: 38 projects presented by our middle-schoolers

A day when the middle-schoolers played the researchers — and the parents the curious public.

At the science fair, two pupils in lab coats show a father and his son their jars of sprouting seeds

On Wednesday the gym became a laboratory. Water filtration, solar energy, seeds sprouting under coloured light: pupils from 1AM to 4AM explained their experiments to families and a jury of three teachers. The 3AM project « A greenhouse that waters itself » will represent the school at the wilaya competition.

Every project began in January with a question asked in science class: why does a seed grow faster under one light than another? How do you filter tank water with sand and charcoal? The pupils kept a lab notebook for three months, with their measurements, their failures and their corrections.

The jury did not mark the result but the method: was the question clear, the experiment honest, the conclusion careful? That is what the science programme asks from 1AM to 4AM, and what the BEM will assess in a month.
